Seletar Shipping (Scotland) Limited, the independent ships agency and freight logistics provider, is working with fire and electronic security specialists from Chubb to secure a number of the company’s prestigious waterside buildings at Aberdeen’s Waterloo Quay.
Chubb is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
Chubb’s working relationship with Seletar spans a 15-year period and began in January 1994 when Chubb won the contract to install an intruder alarm system at two small office premises.
Since then, Seletar has grown into one of the biggest property and shipping companies in Aberdeen, and the support required from Chubb has grown commensurately. It is now one of Chubb’s largest single contracts in the country.
Seletar’s Waterloo Quay Property Manager, Keith Gatland said the partnership’s continued success is due to Chubb’s high level of service.
“We chose, and continue to choose Chubb for its professional reputation and one-to-one personal service,” he says. “Because we have service contracts on both the security and fire systems, we can be assured that any problems are responded to quickly.
Over the years we have developed a good relationship with Chubb locally and the consistently high service levels make it well worth the investment.”
Gatland joined the company in 2005 as the Waterloo Quay Properties subsidiary began to acquire more premises. By this time the relationship with Chubb was well established, spurring Seletar to approach Chubb to install a wireless fire detection solution, after a review found that a number of buildings didn’t meet the latest fire regulations.
“At the time, others said that a wireless solution would be ineffective but the building was not suited to a hard-wired system, so we had to trust Chubb’s judgement,” added Gatland. “That trust was well placed and the system has proved a significant success.”
Seletar has since bought further properties and Chubb provides fire and security-based services on these sites, including CCTV and access control.
“At the Seletar head office in Pioneer House we now have some 40 cameras covering all areas of the building, including a new gymnasium. Images from these cameras are monitored in-house, and I can access them remotely from my laptop.
Chubb also operates on open-protocol, which means it is compatible with products from other manufacturers, allowing greater flexibility in the future.”
Chubb is currently in the process of quoting for Seletar’s latest project, a £17 million new build at Aberdeen Harbour.
