Solid State completes prestigious new cinemas project

Leading installation company, Solid State, has completed yet another prestigious cinema project, this time at Newbury's magnificent new Vue cinema.

Working on behalf of Dicks Electrical, a team of engineers from the Lancashire-based BAFE-SP203 accredited specialist electrical company installed a wealth of life safety equipment, including a fire alarm system, voice alarm system and call system, in record time.

SigNET's powerful single-zone LINX voice alarm system is now in operation at the state-of-the-art 7-screen site and acts as a combined public address/voice alarm/background music system. In the event of an emergency, the system will automatically broadcast pre- recorded messages and includes all of the features of larger life- safety VA/PA systems in a compact wall-mounting swing frame rack.
Says Graham Bell of Solid State: "We specified the LINX voice alarm chiefly because it is an all-in-one, pre-wired and ready to use system which is very easy-to-install and, therefore, highly cost- effective."

Key elements of the fire alarm system, including aspiration units, door retainers and beam detectors, are powered by a range of 24V 3A power supplies manufactured by C-TEC. One of C-TEC's highly versatile and cost-effective four-zone NC944 call controllers has also been installed to provide the cinema's washrooms with alarm facilities which can be used to call for emergency assistance.

Said Martin Gough of Dicks Electrical: "Solid State provided the highest levels of support throughout the entire project and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the engineers for a brilliant effort."
Michael Gallon of Vue Cinemas also paid tribute to all those involved in the construction of the cinema: "Thank you all for a fantastic cinema at Newbury. The level of finish and overall quality is of a very high standard. I received numerous comments from Vue Senior Management who were present at the opening Gala who were delighted with the quality of the Cinema."

Vue Newbury is just one of 68 Vue cinemas attracting over 34 million customers every year. All Vue cinemas boast state-of-the-art multiplexes and are fully equipped with the most up-to-date projection and audiovisual technologies. 90% of Vue cinemas have modern stadium seating and this figure is set to increase over the coming year. The flagship cinema in London's West End has hosted royal premieres for over 60 years.

Solid State is one of the UK's leading specialist electrical installation companies. With over 30 years' experience in the design, installation and maintenance of fire detection, voice alarm and public address systems, the company is BAFE SP203 accredited, an affiliated member of the NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting), the FIA (Fire Industry
Association) and the IFPO (Institute of Fire Prevention Officers).
